Austin is a junior at the University of San Diego, majoring in Biology with minors in both environmental studies and chemistry. Austin spent the fall 2008 semester studying wildlife management at the Center for Wildlife Management Studies in southern Kenya, conducting research focused on finding a way for the native Maasai people to be actively involved in wildlife conservation in a way that benefits wildlife and allows for economic growth among local people.
"My time in East Africa was the best experience of my life. It has given me a much broader view the world, helping me to understand how to best preserve it. I truly feel I made a difference," says Austin. "I hope to continue making a difference here in San Diego, and want to urge others my age to do the same. I have lofty ambitions, and my future career goals will hopefully help protect this planet."
In his free time, Austin enjoys surfing, running, and backpacking - almost anything that allows him to be outdoors. |
