Since 1987, The Jarrett Meeker Foundation has served the children of San Diego County through educational programs, including camping experiences and assemblies which introduce them to nature, and environmental and wildlife conservation. Our purpose is to provide educational hands-on programs in collaboration with other community partners for children and families from our diverse, underserved and disconnected communities. These programs are designed to connect children to nature to impress upon them the importance of preserving habitat and the environment.
A quote from Richard Louv's book Last Child in the Woods, Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder states that kids are aware of the global threats to the environment - but their physical contact, their intimacy with nature, is fading. Jarrett's Foundation is to make this physical contact for our children and erase this disconnection and get our kids back outside playing.
